The Castine Harbor Lodge, formerly known as the Holiday House is
Castine's only waterfront Inn. Overlooking the spectacular scenery
of Penobscot Bay and located in a historic elm lined neighborhood.
The Lodge offers its guests a quiet place to stay. It is an easy
walk to Dice's Head Lighthouse or a short stroll to shops and
restaurants. |

The Inn:
The Castine Harbor Lodge was built in 1893 by Col. A.K.
Bolan of New York City and was later owned by Clarence Wooley,
President of American Radiator Co. of New York City. It is a
commodious house with superb water frontage, and its rooms command
wonderful views. There are 250 feet of porches facing the ocean, one
covered, one open, and one glassed in. The porches overlooking
Penobscot Bay and distant Camden Hills offer a peaceful place to
enjoy your favorite book, paint or simply take in views of seals,
osprey, boats, or a star filled sky.
The local waters are favorite cruising spots for both yachts and
the Maine windjammer fleet. The area offers several excursion boats,
hiking, and sea kayaking. There is a beach offering swimming (not
for the faint of heart) or a place to launch your canoe or sea
kayak. Guest moorings for those arriving by boat are available with
shuttle service to
La
Conque Restaurant. |

The Area:
THE AREA: The Castine area is host to theatre,
summer concerts at Kneisel Hall, quality shops, art galleries,
antiques, and fine restaurants. Centrally located between Camden,
Deer Isle and Bar Harbor, the Inn offers a quiet place to stay with
a location convenient for day trips. Castine is actually a small
island that you drive to via a small bridge over the British Canal
(dug by the British in the 18th Century to escape an American
invasion).
In Castine, we have one of the oldest nine hole golf courses in
the country, a tennis club (clay courts), Yacht Club, and many
Historic Walking Trails. Working fishing villages, Acadia National
Park, Bar Harbor, Camden, and Isle au Haut are all lovely day trips.
You can end your day relaxing on a sun soaked porch or before a
warm cozy fire in our living room. |

The Guest Rooms:
The Inn offers 9 guest rooms each with wonderful water views of
Penobscot Bay and beyond. The rooms, most with private baths,
reflect a quiet country atmosphere. The only sounds are the waves
rolling onto the beach, a soaring gull, and the melodic sound of the
harbor buoy.
A continental breakfast buffet is offered in the dining room, or
on the sun soaked porch directly at the waters edge, where it is so
restful watching the ships and boats go by it is hard to leave.
Our Honeymoon Cottage is located directly on the water and is
available by the week. The cottage is an efficiency, offering a
kitchen area, living room area, bathroom and queen size bed looking
directly out at Penobscot Bay. The cottage has its own private deck,
perfect for relaxing the day away. Rate $550 - $850 per week. |
