> Moosehead Lake Area:

The Lake:
More than 40 miles long and up to 10 miles wide, Moosehead Lake is the largest freshwater lake situated inside a single state in the northeast. From Greenville or Rockwood, you'll view Mt. Kineo (1,806 ft) at it rises from the Lake. Comprised of flint, Indian tribes traveled great distances to make tools and weapons.

> Rockwood:

Squaw Mountain Ski Resort:
Located along Rt.6 heading around the lake (westward), you'll find the town of Rockwood, home to Squaw Mountain Ski Resort. This year round facility offers downhill and cross-country skiing - with the added advantage of the scenic views. In the fall, you can take lift rides so as to enjoy the vast color of the region.

> Greenville:

Lili Bay State Park:
Located northeast of Greenville, is located directly on the shore of Moosehead Lake. Fishing, boating, swimming, pinicking, and camping are all allowed here. However, don't forget your binoculars and camers as you'll sure to mingle, at least once, with the Moose.

S/S Katahdin:
Today this restored lake steamship combines the education of a marine museum with the pleasure of regular lake cruises. Affectionately referred to as "Kate", you can explore the expansive beauty of the Lake.

> Dover-Foxcroft:

Blacksmith Shop Museum:
This restored blacksmith museum, from the Civil War period, maintains much of its original equipment, including; an anvil, bollows, and an ox lifter.

Peakes-Kenny State Park:
This park is located on the south shore of Sebec Lake. For families, there is a sand beach and picnic facilities. Good fishing is available for those seeking a quieter existence.

> Katahdin Area:

Baxter State Park:
Purchased and donated by former Maine Govenor Percival P. Baxter, this 200,000 acre tract of wilderness is dedicated "to be forever left in its natural wild state". The most prominent feature of the park would be mile-high Mt. Katahdin (5,267 ft). Baxter peak marks the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail. A series of 45 other ridges and peaks, eighteen of which rise more than 3,500 ft, provide over 75 miles of hiking and climbing. Some trails are extremely rigorous and you should consult the Park Headquarters for detailed information about trails and safety considerations.
