Jackman sits in the heart of Maine’s most remote and wild territory — the Moose River valley near the Quebec border. Known as the Switzerland of Maine for its mountain scenery, Jackman is a four-season destination for hunters, anglers, snowmobilers, and anyone seeking genuine Maine wilderness without the crowds.
Hunting & Fishing
Jackman is legendary among Maine hunters and fishermen. The region offers some of the best moose, deer, and bear hunting in the state, and the lakes and rivers teem with brook trout, landlocked salmon, and lake trout. Numerous licensed guides and sporting camps provide full-service hunting and fishing experiences for visitors of all skill levels.
Snowmobiling
Jackman is one of Maine’s premier snowmobile destinations, sitting at the hub of a massive trail network that connects to Quebec and the rest of Maine’s ITS trail system. The region typically receives heavy snowfall and has a long season. Rentals and guided tours are available in town.
Whitewater & Paddling
The Moose River Bow Trip is one of Maine’s classic canoe routes — a multi-day loop through pristine wilderness with excellent fishing and wildlife viewing. The Kennebec River below Harris Station Dam offers world-class whitewater rafting just an hour south. Several outfitters in the region run guided raft trips.
